A Houston grand jury has been investigating undercover footage of Planned Parenthood officials discussing the sale of aborted fetuses for research purposes. On January 25, the grand jury concluded Planned Parenthood did nothing wrong and the footage was staged by anti-abortion activists. Members of the anti-abortion Center for Medical Progress were the ones who released the undercover footage of Planned Parenthood; they were indicted after evidence led to the truth. The charges include tampering with governmental records and the purchasing of human organs.
The videos were found to be edited in order to make Planned Parenthood look like they’re doing something wrong. The videos caused outrage among several Republican leaders and committees nationwide. Anti-abortion Republican committees jumped at the chance to call an investigation upon Planned Parenthood. This case could’ve meant serious damage for Planned Parenthood’s reputation and a step towards anti-abortion activists shutting down a foundation that has helped women in need since its beginning despite the large community going against it. Additionally, the case is an example of the great length people will go to achieve their goal even if it means it hurts others. Hopefully this case will encourage the public to carefully analyze questionable evidence and look for signs of corruption.
